Pregnancy Counselling Skills

(Open Awards & ACC recognised)

Image runs a 60-hour course in Christian pregnancy counselling skills. The course aims to explore the basic counselling skills and information areas needed to help people with problems relating to pregnancy, abortion, post abortion and teenage sex from within a Christian framework.  Its purpose is to provide a foundation for all those working, or seeking to work, in Christian pregnancy centres and related areas of ministry. The course is accompanied by a training manual which will be a valuable resource for individuals, churches and centres.

The course provides accreditation with Open Awards in Christian pregnancy skills at level two and level three.  Levels two and three are also recognised by the Association of Christian Counsellors.

The Pregnancy Counselling Skills Course course runs on five Saturdays over four or five months (a total of five days’ attendance) and includes reading and assessment work.

Training Trainers Course

Image's Training Trainers course is designed to equip those wanting to run image's 60-hour course in Christian Pregnancy Counselling Skills in their own region.

Applicants for the Training Trainers course are required to be Christians who are passionate about this area of work, have experience in supporting pregnancy and post-abortion clients and have some previous experience in training others. Obviously, having successfully completed the 60 hour course would be a major advantage, but we recognise that in these early stages some people will not have had the opportunity to do this.

Please note that completing the Training Trainers course does not in itself constitute a commitment to becoming an image trainer - you have the right to decline at any point. Image also reserves the right to decline trainer status to anyone completing the course if, for whatever reason, it is deemed inappropriate. Two referees (one of whom must be a church leader) are required to confirm an application to become a trainer.

Step by Step Training Course

Image's Step by Step training course is designed to equip those wanting to facilitate image's Step by Step Programme with clients (in particular, Christian pregnancy centre workers and others in relevant pastoral or professional roles). The Step by Step programme is for use with clients following abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, child loss or child separation, where the loss is not immediate (i.e. it was at least 3-6 months ago). The training takes trainees on their own journey through the ten steps of the Step by Step Programme.
